Packaging and Delivery

Packaging

Packaging and crating arrangements are to be agreed upon by the supplier and customer.

Standard packaging of Quality Stone Thin Veneer consists of stone stacked on pallets and
wrapped with chicken wire or plastic wrap to contain the stone during loading, unloading and transport.

Standard packaging of Quality Stone Full Veneer consists of chopped stone on pallets and
wrapped in plastic.

Standard packaging of quality Stone Special Cuts consists of stone stacked on pallets with a
Styrofoam sheeting strip placed between each stone and then banded.

Additional packaging may be required, depending on the mode of transport, distance of delivery
and other circumstances. The additional packaging requirements will be at the customers expense.

Delivery

Quality Stone's first choice will be Flatbed Over the Road Trucks (OTR) for delivery of your stone
because these trucks have air ride and once the load has been placed on the truck, will be delivered
directly to the jobsite.

LTL (less than truckload) carriers used for smaller deliveries do not have the same air ride.
The pallets may be loaded and unloaded several times before the delivery is made, which means
there is a greater chance for breakage. Any stone delivered by LTL will be the customers responsibility.

Quality Stone Company recommends using the flatbed trucks for delivery, even if there is a slightly
higher cost, to ensure the safety of your delivery.

The choice is entirely the customers and we will ship the stone however the customer would prefer.
The customer has a choice to hire their own freight carrier at any time.  If the customer chooses to have
Quality Stone arrange the freight delivery, payment for the delivery must be paid in advance of the stone
being picked up from the quarry.  Most flatbed trucks will carry about 22-23 tons of stone.  They are
required to have  tarps on the load, for crossing state boundaries. The customer must arrange for the
machine to off-load the pallets when the stone reaches the jobsite.

Quality Stone Company can deliver loads in bulk: we have dump trucks that can carry up to 13 tons for
smaller deliveries and truck & pup trailers that can delivery up to 25 tons .  We also can deliver flatbed
loads locally and the customer must have a machine for off loading the pallets.

As another option available:  we do hire out small loads of less than 5 tons of bulk stone to a company
that does deliveries. We also hire out small flatbed loads of less that 10 tons. The hire company does
have a machine that will ride on the truck to off load pallets for an additional fee. When a machine or forklift driver off load pallets, they will place the pallets on the ground, but they will not place any stone in its final
resting place. Arrangement can be made with the operator to place pallets in a specific place, but there
may be an additional fee involved.  Another consideration will be the terrain of the jobsite.  Some machines
must operate on level ground.  Please let the company/driver know about your terrain when ordering the stone and before delivery.

For all dump truck loads of stone, the customer must be aware of the terrain and obstacles that are in the area where the truck must dump. The dump truck bed will raise up about 12 feet in the air (end dumps are twice that), so power lines, trees and anything else that may hinder the truck from raising must be avoided.  A level firm surface must also provide stability for the truck to raise the bed so they do not sink, hit septic tanks or turn over.
The customer will be responsible for having the truck towed if it gets stuck.

Flatbed trucks will also need a firm level surface so that the machine operator can off load the pallets with no obstructions and with confidence.

Knowing the facts about your delivery and packaging will make your experience with your stone purchase rewarding and successful. Being aware of safety hazards and requirements of the trucks and machines will make your choices knowledgeable and uneventful.
